Lot 2: WILL EISNER (1917-2005).

Estimate: £40 - £50

Will Eisner cartoon signed drawing. Cossio art gallery stamp on verso. 12x8 inches. Will was an American cartoonist, writer, and entrepreneur. He was one of the earliest cartoonists to work in the American comic book industry, and his series The Spirit (1940–1952) was noted for its experiments in content and form. In 1978, he popularized the term "graphic novel" with the publication of his book A Contract with God. He was an early contributor to formal comics studies with his book Comics and Sequential Art (1985). The Eisner Award was named in his honor, and is given to recognize achievements each year in the comics medium; he was one of the three inaugural inductees to the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame.

Lot 4: GEORGE BARRIS (1922-2016): MARILYN MONROE 1962.

Estimate: £300 - £400 Marilyn Monroe's last photo shoot.Taken on Santa Monica beach, 13th July 1962. C Print. Printed later. 16x12 inches. Stamped by George Barris (c) 1986. Framed. Monroe telephoned him two days before her death, he told The Los Angeles Daily News in 2012. “She called me on Friday, and I was in New York, and she wanted to know if I could come to see her that weekend and that it was urgent,” he recalled. But he had plans to see his family that weekend, so he begged off and promised to visit her on Monday instead.

Lot 7: BERT STERN - MARILYN WITH THE STRIPY SCARF.

Estimate: £2000 - £3000 Bert Stern’s meteoric rise in the 1960s advertising world is represented by such images as his vodka advertisement in which an Egyptian pyramid is seen inverted in a martini glass. Besides working for such clients as IBM, Vogue, Glamour, Life, Revlon, and Smirnoff, he was highly acclaimed for his portraits of celebrities including Gary Cooper and Louis Armstrong. His portraits of stars ranging from Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn to Drew Barrymore, including the spellbinding 1962 “last sitting” photographs of Marilyn Monroe, form a gallery of the most beautiful women of our time. In the 1960s, he became the American prototype of the fashion photographer as media star, and his pictures of models from Twiggy to Iman have become icons to a new generation of photographers. In all of Stern’s works can be seen the remarkable graphic simplicity of his photographic art, as well as his extraordinary rapport with his subjects. Estimate: £600 - £800 A large painting on card by A R Penck. Signed at the bottom of the piece. Size: 16x12 inches. Professionally mounted and framed. Penck first attracted attention with a series of paintings and sculptures, made in the 1960s and early 1970s, that he called Standarts, a conflation of "standard" and "art", with an echo of the German word for banner or flag, Standarte. In the 1980s he became known worldwide for paintings with pictographic, neo-primitivist imagery of human figures and other totemic forms.

Estimate: £2000 - £4000 Marilyn Monroe in Vogue by photographer Bert Stern. Size of glossy print: 20x20 inches. Printed in 2002. Edition:17/50. Typed sticker attached to back giving brief history of Bert Stern. Mounted and framed. Supplied with Bert Stern coa. Bert Stern was one of the leading photographers of the 1950s and 1960s. Like his contemporaries Richard Avedon and Irving Penn, Stern pioneered a new photographic aesthetic, preferring uncluttered and emotionally direct images that strove not only to showcase the human figure but also to capture a sense of the subject’s psychology. Encouraged to pursue photography by Stanley Kubrick, Stern’s reputation quickly grew as he worked for commercial companies such as Revlon. He became a mainstay for fashion magazines like Vogue, and his portfolio featured such superstars as Twiggy, Truman Capote, and Audrey Hepburn. Stern famously captured Marilyn Monroe in The Last Sitting, the actress’s last group of portraits taken six weeks before her death.

Estimate: £400 - £600 Lee Jun-fan, known professionally as Bruce Lee, was a Hong Kong-American actor, director, martial artist, martial arts instructor, and philosopher. He was the founder of the hybrid martial arts Jeet Kune Do. Lee was the son of Cantonese opera star Lee Hoi-chuen. His autograph is professionally mounted and framed in a gold antique style frame and supplied with coa. Condition is good, with some water damage on the autograph.
