Lot 602: BERT STERN (1929-2013): MARILYN MONROE ON THE MOON.

Estimate: £1000 - £1500 His pictures of Marilyn Monroe were some of the last ever taken and his commercial work was some of the first to innovate the advertising image. Bert Stern (1929–2013) was an American photographer whose career was built on endings and beginnings. His iconic ‘last sitting’ with Marilyn Monroe immortalized the star just weeks before her death and his work amongst the real Mad Men of New York changed the way images worked in advertising. Becoming a regular contributor at Vogue, with relative freedom, Stern designed the shoot that would cement his fame. A collection of 2,500 photographs taken over a three-day period, The Last Sitting captured Marilyn nude, draped in scarves, pearls, paper flowers and bedsheets in a suite at the Bel-Air Hotel. Estimate: £800 - £1000 An autographed photo from Ayrton Senna. Size: 11.5x7.5 inches. Professionally mounted and framed. Supplied with coa. Senna has often been voted as the best and most influential Formula One driver of all time in various motorsport polls. He was recognised for his qualifying speed over one lap, and from 1989 until 2006 he held the record for most pole positions. He was also acclaimed for his wet weather performances, such as the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix, the 1985 Portuguese Grand Prix, and the 1993 European Grand Prix. He holds a record six victories at the Monaco Grand Prix, and is the fifth-most successful driver of all time in terms of race wins. Senna courted controversy throughout his career, particularly during his turbulent rivalry with Prost. In the Japanese Grands Prix of 1989 and 1990, each of which decided the championship of that year, collisions between Senna and Prost determined the eventual winner.

Provenance: Franco Franceschi began photography after a period of drawing and painting. After some experience in university magazines and local newspapers for costume services, he dedicated himself to travel reporting. In 1978, he founded Studio Alpha Tau and dedicated himself exclusively to fashion photography in which he aimed to express his feelings that stemmed from a passion for cinema. Since 1980, he began working with Amica, Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar and other important magazines both in Italy and abroad, as well as with leading fashion companies. At the turn of the century, he rediscovered the pleasure of image research and applied himself to it more and more and, in 2002, he began a series of exhibitions in Italy. At the International Festival of Orvieto 2003, he was awarded his first monograph, published by “Edizionitalia” while his images were sought after for solo exhibitions in various countries. Having extended his research on detail, from landscape to architecture and design, he is currently presenting his images at exhibitions in various countries across Europe, the United States and South America.
